META: Thrawn Broken Put Back Together By Kintsugi Art

Recently, there have been rumors of how the story of the Ahsoka TV Show will involve Grand Admiral Thrawn. It is said that the Stormtroopers will have broken helmets with gold veins holding them together. It is similar to Kylo Ren’s helmet in The Rise of Skywalker, but his had red veins than gold.

The idea is from KINTSUGI, the Japanese pottery process of putting broken pieces of a bowl held together by gold inlays. In Japan, they call this process the “golden repair” with a philosophy of:

“…breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.”

and

Kintsugi can relate to the Japanese philosophy of mushin (無心, “no mind”), which encompasses the concepts of non-attachment, acceptance of change, and fate as aspects of human life.[15]

Not only is there no attempt to hide the damage, but the repair is literally illuminated… a kind of physical expression of the spirit of mushin….Mushin is often literally translated as “no mind,” but carries connotations of fully existing within the moment, of non-attachment, of equanimity amid changing conditions. …The vicissitudes of existence over time, to which all humans are susceptible, could not be clearer than in the breaks, the knocks, and the shattering to which ceramic ware too is subject. This poignancy or aesthetic of existence has been known in Japan as mono no aware, a compassionate sensitivity, or perhaps identification with, [things] outside oneself.

What does this mean for Grand Admiral Thrawn’s role in the Ahsoka TV Show?

After Ezra Bridger fought Thrawn in the season 4 finale and ripped him, his ship, the Chimaera, and his crew into hyperspace by the Purrgil Space Whales, Thrawn was broken, and his foretold defeat became real.

Thrawn chose not to hide his defeat but wear it like a badge of honor to move on. Put his pieces back together to create a new aesthetic beauty found in Kintsugi or Kintsukuroi, which he named his Stormtrooper, apparently left alive from his ship.

There are unknowns:

After being broken and the choice to wear it as a badge of honor, what was Thrawn seen as to his people, The Chiss Ascendancy? Do they admire a broken warrior?

Then the last the Thrawn said to Ezra Bridger is, “Whatever Happens next happens to both of us.”

To which Ezra replied, “That’s the idea.”

So, what happened to Ezra? It sounds like he escaped from Thrawn. What does Ezra mean in this broken process that Thrawn has embraced as his new philosophy?

It is easy to see the importance of Ahsoka Tano in her story and witness a broken warrior which whom she shares similarities. Ahsoka overcame her brokenness when she fought against her former master, Anakin Skywalker, who had turned into Darth Vader.

Also, Sabine Wren was a broken girl as a Mandalorian warrior that overcame her brokenness with renewed vision in fighting for her people, her clan, Clan Wren, and the Mandalorians. She is to unify her people with the Darksaber, a lightsaber symbol to the Mandalorians.

Assumptions can be made because Sabine won the Darksaber through ritual combat. The Darksaber’s mysticism can unify the Mandalorians, as stated by Fenn Rau, a Mandalorian Protector. He also said Sabine Wren could raise an army and lead it. But the one thing she does not know how to do is to present an organized active military.

Grand Admiral Thrawn knows how to do that.

The Darksaber has cracked itself held together by white plasma underneath a black “lacquered veneer” from the black focusing crystal in the lightsaber. Created by Tarre Viszla one thousand years ago, Sabine Wren handed the Darksaber to Bo-Katan Kryze, who lost it to Moff Gideon, who lost it in combat to The Mandalorian, Din Djarin. Din Djarin should be the leader, but unless Moff Gideon is a Mandalorian and does not behave like one, then Din Djarin confiscated the Darksaber from the Moff. The Darksaber still resonates and belongs to Sabine Wren, and she could fight for it, or it can be returned like the Arthurian Tale of Excalibur. The Din Djarin is Percival, who produces the Holy Grail, the Darksaber as another form of Excalibur, to the Lady of the Lake, Sabine Wren.

In the end, all characters are broken and put back together by a golden repair that uplifts their presence in this story that will be told in Ahsoka TV Show.

How they come back more vital is a matter of artistic beauty.
