Happy birthday to Yves Klein (1928–1962). Klein, who passed away at only 34 from a heart attack, was a pioneering French artist who worked in a variety of media, including performance, photography, painting, and sculpture. He’s perhaps best known for International Klein Blue (or “IKB”), a vibrant hue of blue that the artist patented in 1957 and which features in many of his artworks, including this work from our collection.
