Happy birthday to Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi. Born on this day in 1876, Brancusi redefined sculpture by reintroducing the direct-carving method common in primitive and folk art, rather than following the more modern sculptural practice of modeling and casting. This masterpiece from our collection was hand-carved from a single piece of limestone. Although a vertical line is visible between the two forms, the figures present as one entity that speaks to the universal qualities of love.
