I do apologize for any cyber bullying my group has engaged in against you.I also hope that you don’t condemn our movement because of those few. We know that we are in the minority, and I know your specific goal is broader than what I brought up and different from our goal, but you seem like a person with a good head on his shoulders, so I would hope you realize that there are bad apples in all groups of people, yes, yours included. I do apologize for any cyber bullying my group has engaged in against you.

I also hope that you don’t condemn our movement because of those few. We
know that we are in the minority, and I know your specific goal is
broader
than what I brought up and different from our goal, but you seem like a
person with a good head on his shoulders, so I would hope you realize that
there are bad apples in all groups of people, yes, yours included. You
can’t believe that the different EU groups you have encountered out there
are in favor of just dogging Disney and the new canon or going on a
warpath. Most of us are levelheaded enough to know that verbal assaults
work against our movement just as I am sure they would work against yours.
Some of the group’s biggest efforts are things like book runs where once a
month we all buy a single Expanded Universe Novel in the same time frame
to boost the sales. Money will speak loudly to a company like Disney,
so if
Disney sees that their Legends books are selling better than their new
releases, they are likely to consider a different course of action. As of
right now, the new Star Wars novels have not sold well in comparison to old
EU. This is because of another effort of our group. The people willing to
read those new books are a lot of the same people who loved the old books,
so the way they protest is they don’t buy the new books. Even those who
have decided to follow the new Disney canon wait until a local library has
the book rather than buying it, or they wait a while before buying the
books so that their purchase isn’t in the initial rush. One of the things
we have done that does leave itself susceptible to immaturity is the
comment runs. Usually on the release of new Disney Star Wars Books, we try
and get a group to comment on Del Rey’s site, Disney’s site, and
Lucasfilm’s site. We encourage a polite attitude of congratulations
followed by a request for more books under the Legends banner. I know
that there are people who definitely leave rude and demeaning comments,
but so
do the Disney Star Wars fans as well as any large group of people
working towards a cause. We don’t see any problem with having two
different story
lines running simultaneously since we have seen Marvel do it with
several universes, but most notably the Ultimate universe. Besides, like
I said
before, the new books aren’t selling as well as the old ones, so it
makes perfect business sense to keep making what sells. If the old books
sell
better because they were of a different continuity with a loyal fan base,
it only makes sense that they would publish new books under that
continuity, not to mention it’s more books. More books means more money.
It’s a business. If they aren’t making money, they logically should choose
to publish more content, which is the line of thinking we are trying to
steer them towards. If you want to introduce Thrawn and the chiss as well
as others into the new canon, go for it. I just wanted to make sure it
was known that the character will probably be altered in some way that
makes
him less compelling as is usually the case. While the nods to the old
canon seem wonderful to some, others take issue with the scrapping of the
EU for creative purposes only to start using the ideas of the old EU. I
hope you’ll reconsider, but I understand you have met the bad apples of
our group and empathize with your situation. Just don’t condemn our
group
because of the irrationality of a few. Best Wishes.

OUR RESPONSE:

Not sure we understand your logic, SWAG77’s goal is to get fans to READ A
BOOK
– any Star Wars book. EU, new canon, or otherwise.

Roleplayers have to read all the literature to perform their characters better. If they do not, they are confounded with RP within 2 months. Non-readers godmod and Mary Sue and frustrates us to no end.

But SWAG77 is uninterested in a Disney Star Wars takedown. Their book
publishing division is less than 2% gross receipts. So, even if they
sell less books, they make more with movies and merchandise.

We discuss that on The Cost of Star Wars Fandom page. This page we will have a few focus group efficacy trials to give a proof of concept. Our main driver is virality. Second is character class education. 3rd is fun live activities on social media that
supports positive fandom.

We hope thought leaders enjoy our campaign and consider fan action, not shut us out and ignore us.

Right now, we are small, but it is our hope that Star Wars fans get to know
our cause and understand its value to advocate in a positive fandom way.

From a roleplay perspective our literature review is important because of the concepts we use to tell our fan fic stories.

Just today in a group we were pondering if Mace Windu died? Of course easily one would say in movies it happened. But then in TCW, Darth Maul returned and they lampshaded it.

So why not add one of the strongest Force users and Jedi Masters like
Windu? You’d only know that if you read “Shatterpoint” but most people
have not.

Moreover, in 2010, my RP OC tweeted Dave Filoni to bring in the Yuuzhan Vong in
TCW. We never thought he’d actually consider it with the concept art
shown at Star Wars Star Wars Celebration VII in Anaheim. We had a fan table there highlighting our cause to #GetThrawnIn.

We know there will be retcons. To not think that’ll happen is to not be
innovative in this creative business of entertainment. That said, at Star Wars Celebration, the story group panel plainly stated that they don’t want one-offs. Thrawn has to build the story arc of Star Wars Rebels. And this page and the planning group is geared to pitch that idea to Lucasfilm.

Chiss now are the “Star Trek Vulcans of Star Wars”. Perhaps it requires that
the Force users take a break for the moment and let the non-Force
Sensitive play more of a role. That is how ANH in the OT was filmed.

We think Thrawn fits the Star Wars Rebels theme at this time. We have some data to support our efforts, we need more.

I don’t mean to put a damper on things, but I would like to tell the people of this movement something. Getting Thrawn in Rebels may seem wonderful, and I think it does, too, except that it won’t be the Thrawn that grew to love in the Thrawn Trilogy, Outbound Flight, and others. I think your goal would be better served if you tried to get the old EU continued under the Legends Banner and seeing new Thrawn books there. Just my opinion. Best Wishes, and May the Force Be With You.

SWAG77 Response:

We all are going to give something to get something. And this page is not just about Thrawn, rather it is more about Chiss and returning them into the
new canon.

We know they’ve considered it. The mock-ups are there. The dailies are there. The concept art is done. The issues may be due to business reasons as to why the concept of the Chiss did not move forward.

We are using one of the most powerful characters, Thrawn as the driver for
all Chiss. We think we can educate the lay public on this “bite-size.”
a morsel from the EU to introduce this concept back. If this one tiny
aspect works, who knows what else can happen?

Under one banner is cool, but it is enormous and too much for the lay
public to comprehend in just 1 sentence. There is too much negativity
surrounding the idea. Too much bad blood generated. Especially since
there is a page dedicated to destroying our parent group SWAG 77.

We can justify why an art critic military genius needs to be in a creative concept show like Star Wars Rebels.

The SWEU has strict stories that require close collaboration. Why should Disney pay for a trilogy they did not create in the SWEU? It doesn’t make business sense given what we know about the composite characters in the new Star Wars movie, “The Force Awakens.”

Our goals are different, and we cannot join your quest. The owner refuses to work with people based on the attacks when her father was very sick in the hospital and hand to manage that.

But we won’t impede your efforts despite our personal thoughts on the #GiveUsLegends
